The design of these products greatly benefits from the use of rapid prototyping technologies. Mostly in order to produce mock-up to be exhibited in trade fair events; stereolithography is one of the best solutions for its aesthetic performance very suitable for painting and to other surface finishes such as chrome plating and vacuum metallization. The nylon powder sintering is widely used when it is necessary to have greater performance on the mechanical resistance and not lastly the production of mechanical processing parts especially in cases where there are to be carried out functional tests and necessarily definitive materials are needed.
In the case of small electrical appliances, product innovation is often linked to the aesthetic aspect and the use of plastic is given more space, while large appliances, on the other hand, are mainly constructed using metal workings, leaving the plastic a decidedly marginal role. In this last category it is useful to distinguish between appliances for professional use placed purely in restaurants and those for home use. In the first case, the sector legislation considerably limits the use of plastic in favour of materials such as steel; in the second case instead the use of plastic is widespread. Just think of all the household appliances we use at home and have had exponential growth in the last decade: coffee machines, food processors, vacuum cleaners, irons but also boilers, water heaters and air conditioners.
