Realization of plastic prototypes

The realization of plastic prototypes is now a widespread practice in all industrial sectors which is indispensable for testing a project under development. Rapid prototyping is a mandatory step that allows you to validate the engineering phases.

Despite the highly advanced features of the best 3D CAD modeling software, creating a prototype is always recommended to touch the model firsthand and validate the project with a physical prototype. Today, there are many technologies in the industrial field, so the first difficulty is to choose the most suitable technology for the tests that must be carried out.

Realization of plastic prototypes: the service

Our service begins with sharing the 3D file that needs to be created, this allows us to analyze the geometry of the file and evaluate feasibility and costs.

Our service includes:

  1. Feasibility analysis included in the quotation: for each request a preventive analysis of the project is always carried out to optimize the design according to the production process. This will allow you to save time, choose the technology that best suits your needs and get the right answers from the tests you will do on the prototype.

  2. Very fast response: within 24 hours of your request you will receive our quote. One of our consultants will assist you in choosing the most suitable technology for your project, respecting your needs for aesthetics, functionality, resistance and much more.

  3. Conformity checks before shipment: before proceeding with the shipment of the prototype we carry out a check of the details to verify the geometry and compliance with the tolerances based on the technology used.

We always believe it is necessary to share all the details of the project in order to choose the technology and the most suitable material for the tests to be carried out on prototypes.

After analyzing the 3D file it is useful to know which tests will be performed on the prototype. These are the most frequent requests:

  • Functionality
  • Assembly with electronics and other components
  • Certification test
  • Thermal resistance
  • Dimensional check
  • Liquid absorption test
  • Electromagnetic compatibility
  • Resistance to chemical agents
  • Drop test
  • Wind tunnel tests
  • Mechanical resistance
  • Aestethic validation
  • Ergonomic tests
  • Optical tests

The rapid prototyping processes that allow you to create a plastic prototype are numerous, internally we are equipped with the best 3D printing technologies used by the manufacturing industry.

Stereolithography is a technology that is mainly used for the creation of aesthetic prototypes. We have the possibility to create monolithic prototypes up to 650X750X550 mm. Accura Clearvue clear resin is a material with similar properties to clear ABS with USP Class VI medical certification. It is also widely used in the lighting engineering field and for tests on automotive lighting.

Nylon sintering is mostly used for functional tests. Nylon powder can be filled with glass or 30% aluminum to increase thermal or mechanical performance.

Another technology used for functional tests is the Multi Jet Fusion always with PA12 material. The plastic prototypes made with this process are very similar to those obtained with sintering and are characterized by heat resistance up to 175 ° C, impermeability and a more compact appearance than sintering.

FDM Fused Deposition Modeling technology produces prototypes in final material via a nozzle. Our machine has a printing plate of 600X500X310; multiple materials can be printed including ASA, TPU, PA66, PA12 Carbon, PC, PC ABS, POM.

The advantage of choosing Coesum is to have an interlocutor with over 20 years of experience on industrial 3D printing processes. Our consolidated know-how also in the product design and engineering phases of industrial products allows us to be a resource for optimizing product development in terms of cost and time reduction.

Our production department is equipped with mechanical workshop machines for milling operations also on 5 axes and a vacuum casting department for the production of pre-series through silicone mold replicas.

Possible applications

The production of plastic prototypes finds application in all industrial sectors. Our experience includes projects in the automotive, military, aeronautics, railway, medical, dental, fitness, electronics, household appliances, safety devices, automation sectors and much more.

Plastics have found application everywhere, which is why there has been a very rapid evolution and diffusion of 3D printing technologies in the B2B and also B2C industrial fields. In addition to large and medium-sized enterprises, many SMEs and Start-Ups have approached these processes and managed to rapidly develop their product and bring it to the market.

Why choose Coesum for the realization of your plastic prototypes

Our experience on all processes is certainly our strength. Today the value of experience is always higher because technologies and materials evolve rapidly and it is not easy to make the right choice.
