Amolab is a National Research Council of Italy spin-off, it is based in Lecce and concentrates its study and research activities to provide the first technological solution for the safe, automatic and non-invasive monitoring of labor. From the research work was born SensUs Touch, a QUS ultrasound device that allows you to safely and non-invasively monitor all stages of childbirth in real time. The software application developed by Amolab processes ultrasound signals and ultrasound images to measure fetal parameters. It translates them into highly intuitive 3D images and synthetic graphs of indicators of clinical interest to give immediate and effective support to the healthcare professionals.
Strengths of the device are the software and the monitor; therefore the aesthetic choice of Amolab regarding SensUs “dress” was well defined from the first meeting for the collection of specifications: a clean, intuitive and essential design to facilitate instrument’s portability. Our architect Gianni Annese accepted the request of our customers and elaborated a series of aesthetic proposals that left a lot in view the monitor on the front and that had special features on the back.
Part of the customer’s requests concerned the need to make SensUs compatible with both an hand-use of the operator and the use on a cart, so our architect Annese provided an insert in the back that serves as a hook on a specific fitting installed on a trolley or another type of cart.
The cover also had to adapt well to the possible variation of the tablet, so the side openings for plugs and cables were designed “universal” and protected with colored rubber inserts that give character to the device and allow easy access to the connectors. The tires and an o-ring seal protect the inside of the device both from damage due to impact but also from infiltrations of liquids or dust; the plastics are all connected without sharp edges to facilitate cleaning operations and ordinary maintenance.
The collaboration between Amolab and Coesum continued with the creation of a first silicone mold pre-series for assembly and operating tests in a controlled environment. The results have been positive and encouraging so much that the project is in full activation phase. The possibility of using silicone molds for both rigid and soft parts has speeded up the process and the constant presence of our designer even in the post-production phases represented a guarantee for the success of the work.
